- Grows on wood and rock
- Makes baby plants on its leaves
What You Receive: One clump with several leaves on a rhizome, packed wet.
Java fern is one of the hardiest aquarium plants. Its long, textured green leaves grow from a rhizome that attaches to wood and rock, so it never needs planting in substrate. It grows in low light without CO2, is not eaten by most fish, and produces baby plants on its leaves that can be removed and attached elsewhere.
Planting
Do not bury the rhizome. Tie it to wood or rock with cotton thread or glue it in place.
Light
Low to medium; brown patches mean too much light.
Water
Clean, stable water; an occasional liquid fertiliser helps.
Maintenance
Remove brown or damaged leaves at the base.
Propagation
Detach the plantlets that form on older leaves once they have roots, and attach them to new spots.
