A tiny spiky isopod whose bumpy, ridged shell looks like a miniature pineapple. Pale milky-white to peach tones, under 1 cm, and unlike anything else in the hobby.
- Unique spiky "pineapple" texture
- Small and delicate, under 1 cm
- Rare Spanish endemic
Cristarmadillidium muricatum is endemic to Spain, where it lives in limestone caves and limestone-rich soils. Its shell is covered in short pointed nodules and raised ridges that give it a textured, pineapple-like look, in colours from milky white to soft peach and faint yellow-orange. Adults stay at 7–9 mm. Broods are small (about 6–12 young), so colonies build gradually and reward patient, hands-off keeping.
Premium collection: these are slower-breeding, collector-grade species. Cultures are limited and shipped as a mixed-age group of 6 or more, which gives you the best chance of both sexes and a breeding start. Keep them in a stable, shaded room, below 28°C.
Well-ventilated enclosure, mostly dry and airy, with a small damp moss zone covering about one sixth of the floor. Add generous calcium (crushed limestone, cuttlebone) to the substrate. Feed rotting hardwood and leaf litter as staples; they are not strongly food-driven, so offer small amounts. Keep disturbance to a minimum while the colony establishes.

Shipping & Live-Arrival Guarantee
We ship Monday to Wednesday only, so your isopods never sit in a courier hub over the weekend. During peak summer (April to June) we may hold orders for a cooler shipping window and will message you on WhatsApp before dispatch. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if any isopods arrive dead, send an unboxing video within 2 hours of delivery and we will replace them or refund you for those pieces.
Acclimation Tips on Arrival
- Open the box as soon as it arrives and keep it out of direct sun.
- Gently tip the moss and isopods into their enclosure; do not pick them out one by one.
- Mist one corner, offer leaf litter and a small piece of vegetable, and leave them undisturbed for 48 hours.
- Some stress losses in the first week are normal for any live shipment; a stable, lightly humid setup keeps them to a minimum.
