A Windowsill Obsession
It started with one bioactive vivarium — a small glass box of moss, springtails and a handful of isopods meant to just clean up after a gecko. Watching that tiny ecosystem regulate itself, breed, and thrive sparked an obsession that outgrew every shelf in the house.
What began as a hobby soon turned into dozens of culture bins, then a dedicated breeding room in Howrah, West Bengal, and eventually requests from keepers across India who wanted healthy stock from someone who actually understood bioactive setups.

Verdanest was founded on a simple idea: Indian keepers deserve healthy, captive-bred isopods and plants that are already used to Indian conditions, along with honest advice written for Indian homes — not guides translated from a cool American basement. That means healthy livestock, plants that actually thrive in our humidity, and supplies chosen because we use them ourselves.
Every culture we sell has lived in our own breeding room in Howrah first — we don't list anything we wouldn't keep. Being based in Howrah also means shorter transit times and fresher arrivals for keepers across Kolkata and West Bengal.

Today I split my time between the culture room and packing orders — every enclosure recommendation on this site comes from something I've built and lived with myself.
