Cork bark is the classic isopod hide. Isopods cluster underneath it, where the substrate stays dark and humid, and many species breed there. It is light, naturally resistant to rot and mould, and lasts for years, unlike softer wood that breaks down quickly. Its textured surface also makes a natural-looking feature in display terrariums. Each piece is natural, so shape and size vary.
- Rinse under clean water before use (no soap).
- Press it lightly into the substrate on the damp side so isopods can hide underneath.
- Lift it gently to check your colony, then put it back in the same spot.
- Use two pieces in larger tubs: one on the damp side, one on the dry side.
Care level: Beginner. Maintain stable humidity and temperature appropriate for this species, provide adequate leaf litter/cover, and avoid sudden environmental swings.
