- Striking cow-patch colouring
- Very tolerant of heat, well suited to Indian summers
- Fast breeding, heavy eaters: a powerful cleanup crew
Dairy Cows are one of the largest and most eye-catching isopods you can keep. Their smooth grey-white bodies carry dark patches like a Holstein cow. They are fast runners, heavy eaters and prolific breeders, so a culture builds quickly and processes waste at impressive speed. Porcellio laevis handles warmer temperatures better than most species, which makes it one of the easiest choices for Kolkata and other hot regions. Their appetite for protein also makes them a popular feeder culture for reptiles and amphibians.
Use a well-ventilated tub; this species dislikes stagnant, soggy air. Give 5–7 cm of coco peat, leaf litter and bark hides, keeping one corner damp. Protein is essential: feed fish flakes, dried shrimp or dog kibble 2–3 times a week alongside leaves and vegetables. Without enough protein they may nibble on moulting tank-mates, so keep them apart from smaller species. Provide cuttlebone for calcium.

Shipping & Live-Arrival Guarantee
We ship Monday to Wednesday only, so your isopods never sit in a courier hub over the weekend. During peak summer (April to June) we may hold orders for a cooler shipping window and will message you on WhatsApp before dispatch. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if any isopods arrive dead, send an unboxing video within 2 hours of delivery and we will replace them or refund you for those pieces.
Acclimation Tips on Arrival
- Open the box as soon as it arrives and keep it out of direct sun.
- Gently tip the moss and isopods into their enclosure; do not pick them out one by one.
- Mist one corner, offer leaf litter and a small piece of vegetable, and leave them undisturbed for 48 hours.
- Some stress losses in the first week are normal for any live shipment; a stable, lightly humid setup keeps them to a minimum.
