  • Every individual has a unique spotted pattern
  • Very hardy and forgiving of beginner mistakes
  • Fast breeder: a group of 5–10 builds into a colony within a few months
  • Great cleanup crew for tarantula, gecko and scorpion enclosures

Orange Dalmatians are a colour morph of the common rough woodlouse, one of the toughest isopods in the hobby. No two are alike: each carries its own pattern of white, orange and dark speckling. They tolerate a wide range of temperatures and humidity, which makes them well suited to Indian homes. They breed quickly, clean up leftover food and waste, and help keep bioactive terrariums healthy. They are active and visible, so they are as fun to watch as they are useful.

Keep in a ventilated tub with 5–7 cm of coco peat and leaf-litter substrate. Keep one corner damp and the rest slightly drier. Feed dry leaves and rotting wood as a base, with vegetables (carrot, cucumber, zucchini) and a protein source such as fish flakes once or twice a week. Add cuttlebone or crushed eggshell for calcium.

Speckle pattern gets more defined with age — hardy and easy to keep long-term.

Shipping & Live-Arrival Guarantee

We ship Monday to Wednesday only, so your isopods never sit in a courier hub over the weekend. During peak summer (April to June) we may hold orders for a cooler shipping window and will message you on WhatsApp before dispatch. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if any isopods arrive dead, send an unboxing video within 2 hours of delivery and we will replace them or refund you for those pieces.

Acclimation Tips on Arrival

  1. Open the box as soon as it arrives and keep it out of direct sun.
  2. Gently tip the moss and isopods into their enclosure; do not pick them out one by one.
  3. Mist one corner, offer leaf litter and a small piece of vegetable, and leave them undisturbed for 48 hours.
  4. Some stress losses in the first week are normal for any live shipment; a stable, lightly humid setup keeps them to a minimum.
