Tiny, pure-white tropical isopods that live in the soil and keep planted terrariums clean. All-female and self-reproducing, so even a small group builds a colony.
- Tiny size (3–4 mm), lives within the soil
- All-female: no need for pairs
- Breeds quickly in warm, humid conditions
- Safe for plants, ideal for planted and closed terrariums
Dwarf Whites are the classic cleanup crew for tropical vivariums. At just 3–4 mm they live mostly inside the substrate, breaking down waste, mould and dead plant matter without disturbing plants or the animals you keep. The species reproduces without males (parthenogenesis), so every individual can start a new colony on its own. Their small size and soil-dwelling habit make them ideal for dart frogs, small geckos, tarantula enclosures and closed or planted terrariums where larger isopods would be too visible or too busy.
Keep in a closed tub with small vents, using moist coco peat, leaf litter and sphagnum moss. Dwarf Whites dry out quickly, so the substrate must never go fully dry; mist every 2–3 days. Feed leaf litter, fish flakes and a little vegetable matter; they also graze on mould and decaying wood. Do not overfeed, as uneaten food attracts mites.
Best kept as a supplementary cleanup crew alongside springtails — rarely seen above the substrate surface.

Shipping & Live-Arrival Guarantee
We ship Monday to Wednesday only, so your isopods never sit in a courier hub over the weekend. During peak summer (April to June) we may hold orders for a cooler shipping window and will message you on WhatsApp before dispatch. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if any isopods arrive dead, send an unboxing video within 2 hours of delivery and we will replace them or refund you for those pieces.
Acclimation Tips on Arrival
- Open the box as soon as it arrives and keep it out of direct sun.
- Gently tip the moss and isopods into their enclosure; do not pick them out one by one.
- Mist one corner, offer leaf litter and a small piece of vegetable, and leave them undisturbed for 48 hours.
- Some stress losses in the first week are normal for any live shipment; a stable, lightly humid setup keeps them to a minimum.
