Jewel orchid is one of the few orchids grown mainly for its leaves. Its velvety, deep maroon-to-black foliage is traced with shimmering pink veins, and mature plants send up spikes of small white flowers. Unlike most orchids, it grows in soil and enjoys the moderate light and humidity of terrariums. It is surprisingly easy and grows by creeping stems that can be cut and re-rooted.

Low to medium indirect light; strong light fades the leaf colour.
Watering
Keep the mix lightly moist but never soggy; the stems rot in waterlogged soil.
Humidity
60% or more; it likes terrariums with some airflow.
Substrate
Airy mix of coco peat, bark and sphagnum.
Propagation
Cut stem sections with 2–3 nodes and lay them on moist moss to root.
