What You Receive: One healthy plant with roots wrapped in moist moss or in a nursery pot.
Silver fern gets its name from the waxy silver-white coating on the underside of its fronds, which flashes as the leaves move. Its dark, glossy stems and finely divided fronds add vertical interest and a wild, forest-floor feel. It prefers bright, indirect light and moist soil, and suits large terrariums, paludariums and shaded balcony pots.
Light
Medium to bright indirect light; avoid harsh midday sun.
Watering
Keep the soil moist; ferns brown quickly if they dry out.
Humidity
Likes humidity with some airflow.
Substrate
Rich, well-draining mix with coco peat and bark.
Trimming
Remove old, browning fronds at the base to make room for new ones.
The silver-grey striping is most vivid under filtered light — avoid direct sun, which bleaches the pattern.
