A chunky Italian pill bug with a soft grey-and-white marbled shell. Rolls into a ball, handles a range of conditions, and is one of the easiest Armadillidium to breed.
- Marbled grey, white and silver colouring
- Rolls into a ball (true pill bug)
- Hardy and adaptable: among the easiest Armadillidium
- Steady breeder, good value starter culture
Armadillidium peraccae is native to northern Italy and has become a hobby staple thanks to its hardiness and handsome marbled look. Adults show pale grey shells mottled with white and silver patches, with some individuals leaning darker. They roll into a neat ball when handled, move at a relaxed pace and spend plenty of time out in the open. Peraccae breed steadily and adapt well to most setups, making them an ideal step up for keepers who want a rolling species without the fuss.
Provide 5–7 cm of coco peat with leaf litter, bark and a little crushed chalk or limestone. Keep one third of the enclosure damp and the rest drier, with good ventilation. Feed dry leaves and rotting wood as a base, plus vegetables and a weekly protein source. Keep cuttlebone available at all times. Avoid temperatures above 30°C.
Compact and hardy — rolls into a tight ball when disturbed and tolerates a range of humidity levels well.

During peak summer (April to June) we may hold orders for a cooler shipping window and will message you on WhatsApp before dispatch. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if any isopods arrive dead, send an unboxing video within 2 hours of delivery and we will replace them or refund you for those pieces.
Acclimation Tips on Arrival
- Open the box as soon as it arrives and keep it out of direct sun.
- Gently tip the moss and isopods into their enclosure; do not pick them out one by one.
- Mist one corner, offer leaf litter and a small piece of vegetable, and leave them undisturbed for 48 hours.
- Some stress losses in the first week are normal for any live shipment; a stable, lightly humid setup keeps them to a minimum.
